County, IL d. 26 June 1994 at St John's North Hospice, Springfield, IL at 11:35 pm.I think Elwell (Jonathan Elwell)
Garrison was my Isaac's father and that an Isaac may have been Elwell's father...v.g. 11-22-96
Now (April 19, 2008) I can verify thru DAR records Elwell's dad was Samuel(Jonathan)Garrison of Hanover County VA (b. 1745, died Scott (Fayette) County Ky in 1799 married Margaret Alexander (born 22 Aug 1749, died 1807). Samuel was a private in Revolutionary War in Capt Francis Walker's Company. He enlisted for two years April 10, 1776 in the 9th Virginia Regiment. See supporting DAR documents in Cumberland Family Tree files for Garrison Family.(verne garrison note)
Also this date 4-19-2008 I (Verne Garrison) found this about the 9th Regiment:
9th Virginia Brig. Gen. Peter Muhlenberg
Most of this regiment had been captured by the British during the Battle of Germantown on October 4, 1777. Fragments of this regiment were represented at Valley Forge.
I believe "my Isaac" is the son of Elwell Garrison and Elizabeth Raney; and that Elwell's father may have been from the Nicholas Garrison Line b 1701 Staten Island, NY who's father was Lambert Garrison from Holland.
****Early settlers from Holland settled in NewFoundland...were quick to "get Naturalized"
subject to Britain so they could have chance to homestead some ground."
from "Hoosier Genealogist"
Isaac Timothy Garrison's children were: James; William; Lindsey; Eliza Jane; Landon; Nancy; Harriet; Emily; Redding Money; Emiline; Isabella; Caroline; Dr J (Judson); Hinckley; and Miles Greenwood...
I believe his father
was Elwell Garrison b. Mar 1770 and d.20 Nov 1843 at Isaac's residence in Franklin, IN. bur Old Mt
Pleasant Baptist Church three mile east of Franklin near Hurricane Creek. I believe Elwell's wife
was Elizabeth_RANEY as is listed in Isaac's household in the Indiana 1840 census. I think
Hepzidah's father Peter Hendricks was there at that time and died a few years later. After their
deaths, Isaac moved his family to Topeka, KS . They boarded a steamboat at Madison, IN on the
Ohio River went south to Mississippi river then up it to the Missouri River to Manhattan, KS.
They went by wagon and ox cart to Topeka where Isaac had visited in 1857 when he and his son
Landon bought some ground which is now Gage Blvd in Topeka, near Garrison Crossing. This
move was made in 1859. Isaac and some of his sons went back to Indiana, brought 160 head of
cattle via steamboat again to Manhattan and herded them to Topeka. Isaac built a large four
gable home in 1861 (see photo) much of material brought in from Indiana as Topeka was just
cow town (see sketches) at this time.
